In 1994, Seawind Catamarans launched the
first Seawind 1000. A 33 foot cruising catamaran with a unique
design and modern lines. In that same year, the Seawind 1000
won the “Australian Cruising Boat of the Year”, the first time such
an award had been bestowed on a Catamaran. Since then over 100 boats
have travelled down the Seawind 1000 production line and into the
hands of their new owners, anxious to begin cruising on their new
dream boat.
Designed to cope with the rugged and variable
conditions of Australia’s coastline, the Seawind 1000 is widely
considered a great ocean going yacht due to design features such as
flared hulls for additional buoyancy, triple point reefed mainsail
to easily de-power, and foam core construction for additional
strength, just to name a few. However the Seawind 1000 is also one
of the best designs for entertaining guests or taking the family
sailing as a result of the uniquely designed cockpit and
saloon.
The concept
Unlike any
conventional yacht or catamaran, the Seawind 1000 avoids dividing
the saloon and cockpit by combining the two into one large living
and entertainment area with enough room to sail with up to 22 people
aboard. Even the saloon table converts into a huge king size bed.
The aft targa seating not only accommodates the all important BBQ,
but also supports the solar panels that double as shade over the
seats. The dinghy can also be raised onto davits supported by the
Targa.
Good performance in a cruising catamaran means
a marriage of style, performance and function with an overall
requirement for safety, security and people friendliness. The
Seawind 1000 blends these features beautifully using modern
lightweight materials and traditional boat building skills. With the
Seawind 1000 you get a performance cruising catamaran with an
interior second to none.
Using an elegant blend of
traditional timber craftsmanship and modern materials the Seawind
1000 interior is practical to use, easy to maintain and a joy to
live in. The galley would do a 60 footer proud. Located in the
starboard hull it is well away from through traffic and has huge
panoramic windows to give a light airy workplace.
Luxury
features such as LP gas stove, huge refrigeration and separate
freezer, pressurised hot and cold water, unlimited storage in
cupboards and drawers all combine to make this a galley to enjoy.
In both the charter and private versions the Seawind 1000
boasts four double berths. Located in separate areas of the boat
they give privacy and spaciousness not seen on any similar sized
yacht. In the private version the port hull is given over to the
luxury of the owner with a huge master cabin located amidships (as
shown) and the shower/toilet aft.
The Seawind 1000 also is
fitted with a large shower/toilet compartment. This fully lined and
fitted bathroom is a far cry from the small rooms often found in
similar sized craft and is easy to use under way.
Up on deck
is another area where the Seawind 1000 shines. The covered bridge
deck offers 360 degree views and the covered cockpit offers security
from the wind, sun and rain without isolating this area from the aft
deck. The beauty of this design is that it integrates the deck
saloon into the aft deck so that the group no longer separates into
sailors and no sailors.
For the parents it means not having
to worry about the kids who can play while you sail. On top of this
the view forward is excellent unlike many other catamarans providing
safer manoeuvring around the harbour and offshore. For the cruising
sailor the covered bridge deck also makes very good sense. It gives
a place away from the wind and sun where you can keep an excellent
eye on what is happening whilst letting an autopilot steer you to
your next anchorage. With the option of removable windows you can
dial up the amount of ventilation you require to keep you snug when
its wet and cool when its hot.
The Seawind packages all
these features in a fast and very easy to sail catamaran. With its
powerful but easy to handle rig and well laid out control systems
the Seawind 1000 is a cinch to handle on your own. Sheets and
halyards are easily accessible to both helm stations so you have
full control at all times of your vessel. The mainsail is drives the
boat well but is docile to handle with a wide traveller and powerful
mainsheet system. Tacking is a breeze with the easy to handle blade
jib. The underhung rudders, U-shaped sterns and efficient keels make
the Seawind 1000 to do what you want it to.
